The "TIDES"
In the Pentecost season we have five blocks of time, or tides, following Pentecost: Trinity Tide [from 0 to 5 Sundays after Trinity], St. Peter & St. Paul Tide [or Apostles' Tide], St. Lawrence' Tide, St. Michael's Tide, and then All Saints' Tide. One can sense the movement in this keeping of time within the season: The eternal Word of the Father becomes incarnate by the Holy Spirit and dwells among us in the flesh; he calls and sends his Apostles; he catechizes them in the way of the Cross, preparing them for death and resurrection with himself; he engages a spiritual warfare that has profound significance in the heavenly places; and sanctifies and cleanses his Bride, the Church, for life everlasting.Theme for The Seventh Sunday after Pentecost
God's steadfast love for us brings opposition from Satan, the world, and our own sinful flesh. Sometimes opposition comes from those of a Christian's own family. Those who lose their lives for Christ will find them.
Hymn #685
Alleluia. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. Alleluia.
Almighty God, by the working of Your Holy Spirit, grant that we may gladly hear Your Word proclaimed among us and follow its directing; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
